The countdown is on! Even though it happens every year, it’s hard to believe Halloween and November have snuck up on us so quickly; there are only 5 days left until our grand opening! I cannot begin to describe the anxious excitement that has been growing ever since March of this year. It was in March that I started to seriously pursue taking over Hyde Park Tailors and Cleaners from my opa Erwin and great-uncle Joe. I took a “business” trip to Europe where I did lots of “research,” while walking around London (where I visited the famous Hyde Park) and Madrid. After visiting and shopping in these great cities, I knew that it was time to make this dream of running my own business a reality.
Now to update you all on the renovations: The floor remodeling went perfectly! We were able to salvage the original wood flooring underneath the old red and black tile. MaxCare did an amazing job and the hardwood floors bring a fresh look to the space. It was estimated that the tile was from around the 1920’s, so I think it’s fair to say that they were do for a change!
As I'm writing this a member of my extended family, professional painter Jon Dassow is working on painting the remaining walls that were out of my reach (ceiling, trim, etc.). We are even using some REAL METALLIC PAINT! It’s complementing the new lighting, floors, and desk perfectly!
With the Grand Opening fast approaching, merchandise is starting to slowly sneak its way into the front of the shop. Putting together the displays and arranging the merchandise is one of the most fun parts of the job. My mom, Rose, has taken the reins on the displays. I can’t wait for all of you to see her all-white holiday window and the other window display dedicated to our rich history in tailoring!
I cannot thank my family and friends enough for the support that they have given me in the past months! Some days may feel longer than others, but I’m so lucky to have people who are willing to drop anything and everything to come help me when I need it. <3 <3 <3
